As part of the SPM² project (Sustainable Project Management Methodology based on PM²), a targeted survey was conducted to explore evolving needs and expectations related to sustainability-focused certifications and micro-credentials in project management.
The survey collected insights from professionals and stakeholders across multiple sectors to assess how sustainability principles can be more effectively integrated into PM²-based training and certification frameworks. Key topics included the perceived value of sustainability credentials, areas for skill development, and the role of project managers in promoting sustainable practices.
The survey results provide important guidance for embedding sustainability into the PM² methodology, with key areas of influence including:
Training Design: Informing the structure and content of future training programs on sustainable project management to better address practitioners’ real-world needs.
Certification & Micro-Credentials: Supporting the development of new sustainability-focused certification pathways and micro-credentials aligned with professional expectations.
Practical Tools & Guidance: Guiding the creation of tools, templates, and updated PM² guidance to help professionals implement sustainability in their projects.
Support for ESG Integration: Highlighting the demand for stronger alignment with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, facilitating their integration into project planning and execution.
This survey is part of ongoing efforts within the SPM² initiative to strengthen the role of project management in addressing sustainability challenges. By integrating stakeholder feedback early in the development process, the project ensures that outputs such as guidance documents, training modules, and certification criteria are grounded in real-world needs and practices.
