The promotion of gender equality is a central pillar of the European Union’s legal and political agenda. Recognized as a fundamental value of the Union, gender equality is embedded in its founding Treaties and supported by a comprehensive set of legislative and policy instruments aimed at ensuring that all individuals, regardless of gender, enjoy equal rights, opportunities, and protections in both public and private spheres. The exam evaluates knowledge of EU gender equality law and policy instruments and their application across EU institutions and Member States in practice. Topics include equal pay for equal work, gender balance in decision-making, work-life balance, access to goods and services, protection of pregnant workers, gender-based violence, and institutional mechanisms for gender mainstreaming.
